It’s Snowing at Purgatory!

Snowmaking operations began last night! We started at about 9:30 and kept going through 3 a.m. this morning. We hit the coldest areas between the top and bottom of Lift 2. It was a solid first night of snowmaking operations – we could be making snow again as early as tonight and again this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Last night gave us the perfect opportunity to take our upgraded snowmaking system for a spin, too. As part of our $15 million capital campaign, Purgatory – like all of the resorts within our collective – has upgraded and added to its snowmaking infrastructure. This year we have focused many of our efforts on creating the best early season conditions in southwest Colorado: we’ve doubled our frontside snowmaking capacity, adding 10 new, energy-efficient snow guns and a new snowmaking pump. We’ve also added electric lines, particularly on the trails that service Lift 6. Together, with the work of our all-star team, these efforts will help us create the best opening day experience – one that you and your family will not want to miss!

Don’t forget: our opening day is scheduled for November 18, 2018 (WATCH: Winter Begins November 18th at Purgatory Resort)!

As the 2017-2018 winter season gets closer, we’ll be sharing more mountain updates. Keep checking this blog to stay involved with our progress as we prepare for opening day!

Last but not least, we want to thank everyone who joined us this summer and particularly for our closing weekend of summer operations – including the over 1,000 people who joined us for Oktoberfest on Saturday! We had an amazing summer season – thank you for being a part of it.
