Purgatory Opens Tomorrow!

Winter is nearly here. With snow falling (and more in the forecast!) it’s looking and feeling a lot like winter. We are excited to get this season started tomorrow!

Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages to see live feeds from the mountain this afternoon!

In the meantime, here’s a quick update on what to expect tomorrow:

Snow is in the forecast (see our weather station). I’ve had many people ask me how that will change our opening day plans, and our strategy most likely will not change (read the full details from our earlier blog here): Lift 2 will be open for skiing and snowboarding and, depending on how much snow we receive, Lift 4 is still scheduled to be open for mountain biking. If we need to cancel our mountain biking plans, we will announce that tomorrow on our snow report. As of today, right now, we’re still planning to ski, ride and bike – we’re kicking off the season Durango-style!

We’ll have two runs open for skiing and snowboarding: Westfork and El Diablo (SEE: trail map). Both of these are serviced by Lift 2. We will not have beginner terrain open tomorrow.

How You’ll Access Lift 2: When you arrive at our base area, you’ll step into your skis or snowboard and ride our high-speed six pack (Lift 1) up to the top of the mountain, then ski to the bottom of Lift 2. All open terrain will be accessed on Lift 2. At the end of the day, you’ll ski back to Lift 1 and ride the six pack down to the base area.

Starting November 18, Purgatory is open for daily operations: Lifts 1 and  2 will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift 4 will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We will offer terrain park features: our terrain park crew is working on those now, and we’ll have at least a couple features available starting tomorrow.

Mountain biking is currently scheduled for this weekend and next weekend: November 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26, weather permitting. Again, if this changes, we will announce it on our snow report. We’re planning to open Divinity Flow Trail, Diggler, and the downhill portion of the 1990s XC World Course.

Opening Day festivities include:

  • The annual first chair photo. If you want to be in the picture, be at Lift 1 early!
  • We’ll have live music from Paul Christian on the Powderhouse deck from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • The bluegrass band favorite, The Outskirts, will perform at Purgy’s from 12 – 3 p.m.
  • Coors will also be on hand to give away an awesome Coors Banquet cooler to one lucky winner!

This is going to be an awesome day! See you tomorrow!
