Purgatory is Adding a New Lift This Winter!

An example of what a magic carpet looks like. This photo is from Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort.

This winter, Purgatory Resort is adding a magic carpet in the Columbine area (SEE: Purgatory Trail Map). Magic carpets are conveyor-style lifts that glide along the surface of the snow (very similar to moving walkways at airports). These lifts are perfect for first-time and beginner skiers to use because they’re so easy to load and unload. Magic carpets make it easier for novices to do lap after lap on beginner runs as they build their skills.

This is Purgatory’s second magic carpet: the first has been used exclusively by our ski school students. Our newest carpet will be open to the public and available for anyone with a lift ticket to use. The magic carpet is part of our collective’s $15 million capital campaign – to read about the other mountain improvements we’re making this year, click here.

We’re now beginning the excavation in preparation for the lift installation this fall. This carpet will be open this winter!

Parents in particular love magic carpets (mostly because they eliminate the amount of time they have to help their kids up the slope!), and moms and dads are also going to love our new children’s clothing line, Kamik, available exclusively at Purgatory Sports (2615 Main Avenue). Stop by our store today to check out the new line – and don’t forget to pick up your season pass or Power Products, too!

Snowmaking Update
Snowmaking continues as Purgatory prepares for Opening Day, scheduled for November 18, 2017! We’ve been making snow every night since last Friday – the below photo shows what the terrain looks like just below the top of Chair 2 this morning..We continue to make snow in the coldest areas between along Lift 2, and we anticipate making snow again starting Friday. Stay tuned for more updates!
