Legends Express – Now Open!
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Grand Opening of the new Legends Express high-speed quad on the 19th. It was a fantastic day with great skiing on the backside.
I’d like to thank the mountain operations team for all their hard work with the new lift construction. We cut 3 new trails and added snowmaking to lower Ray’s and lower Blackburn’s in addition to the lift project. Everyone worked extremely hard to get it ready for the grand opening, and all their efforts are very much appreciated.
Here’s a video of the grand opening, thanks to Durango Government TV for sharing this with us.
As you know, we eliminated the old mid-way loading on Lift 8 and added a new bypass to access the new lift. We recognize that conditions on this new trail for the grand opening weren’t as we had hoped because of early season conditions, construction traffic on the trail prior to opening, and heavy use during opening weekend. With the additional 5 feet of snow we just received last week, it’s definitely helped conditions.
While we do have this new bypass trail to the bottom of the Legends Express chairlift, we never expected it to be the primary egress for intermediate skiers. Our plan has always been to provide snowmaking on Lower Ray’s and Blackburn’s and to keep it groomed nightly, providing adequate egress to the bottom. We are also grooming Siegle’s when we can.
I believe the skier’s experience has been greatly enhanced with the new snowmaking on the lower portion of these trails allowing them to hold more snow and enabling us to groom them more regularly. Our goal is to provide an excellent skiing experience on the backside of the mountain with the new lift, additional trails and enhanced snowmaking efforts. I invite you to check out the new lift and terrain and try skiing the lower portion of Ray’s and Blackburn’s if you haven’t this season.
Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!
