Snow is Coming: Purgatory Opens Saturday!

Purgatory opens this Saturday, and we couldn’t be more excited to get the season started. With snow looking more and more likely starting Thursday (see our weather station here), it could be a snowy opening day. We’ll continue to watch the weather to see what materializes – as of today, here is what we’re expecting to open starting Saturday:

Lift 2 will be open and, like last year, our opening day route will go from the top of Lift 2 to the Powder House to West Fork and El Diablo. You’ll access this lift and terrain via the Purgatory Village Express, our high-speed six pack lift. At the end of the day, you’ll take the six pack back down to the base, all while enjoying the spectacular mountain views.

We’re working hard to open more terrain – we’ll know more by the end of this week.

Last year, Purgatory made national headlines when we opened for skiing and mountain biking on the same day. If this week’s storm does not bring significant snow, we will open mountain biking again! Our mantra is skiing first, and if this week’s storm brings solid accumulation, we’ll strike biking to focus on skiing. Otherwise, we’ll open Lift 2 for skiing and snowboarding and Lift 4 for mountain biking.

I spoke with Hogan Koesis, our mountain bike director, and he said that he’s planning to open the Divinity Flow Trail, Diggler and downhill portion of the 1990s XC World Course. These are currently scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday.

Whether you ski or snowboard or mountain bike or want to do all three on the same day, we can’t wait to see you on opening day this Saturday! Don’t forget about the Opening Day party and – if you’re a Purgatory passholder – the Passholder Appreciation Party on Wednesday, November 15!
