Purgatory To Suspend Operations March 15-22
Decision Follows Executive Order From Colorado Governor Polis

Durango, CO: Resort officials announced that Purgatory will suspend operations effective March 15-22, 2020 in compliance with Governor Polis’ Executive Order. The order directs Colorado’s downhill ski resorts to suspend operations for one week. The Governor will continue to monitor the course of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state and may amend this Executive Order accordingly.

Purgatory’s managing partner, James Coleman said, “While we have been – and will continue to be – resolute in our commitment to employee and guest safety, this evening’s decision was not our choice,” Coleman said. “We apologize for any inconvenience to our Purgatory community including passholders and out of state visitors.” 

All Purgatory pre-purchased lift ticket and season pass products will be valid at Power Pass’ sister resorts including Arizona Snowbowl, Brian Head and two New Mexico resorts for the duration of the closure. This does not include lodging and accommodations.

“Our company is rooted in the philosophy that we’re here to give people the freedom to ski,” Coleman added. “This is an unprecedented time for all of us and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to adapt to the changing decisions.”

Purgatory has been actively supporting La Plata County’s planning, community monitoring and response efforts of COVID-19. The resort staff is working side-by-side with public health experts, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and will continue to do so until there is no longer a public health concern.
