Where do I go when I arrive at Durango Mountain Resort?
Ski and Ride School is located on the second floor of Village Center in Purgatory Plaza. We open at 8:00 AM.
When do group lessons begin and how long do they last?
Full Day Adult Group Lessons: Register by 9:30 AM & meet at 9:45 AM – 3:30 PM
(with a break for lunch from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 PM)
Full Day Kid’s Lessons: Register by 9 AM & meet at 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM (includes lunch from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM)
Half Day Adult Lessons: Morning: Register by 9:30 AM & meet at 9:45 AM – 12:30 PM
Afternoon: Register by 12:30 PM & meet at 12:45 PM – 3:30 PM
Half Day Kid’s Lessons: Register by 12:30 PM & meet at 12:45 PM - 3:30 PM
When should I arrive for my group lesson?
Please arrive at least 1 hour before your lesson begins if you need to rent equipment (earlier during holiday periods). Purgatory Rentals opens at 8:00 AM.

Afternoon Group Lessons
Adults and Kids meet at 12:45 PM
Where do classes meet?
All classes meet in the base area.
Kid’s classes meet at the bottom of the Twilight lift.
Adult classes meet by the big trail map right outside of the rental shop.
Private lessons meet at the big blue Private Lesson sign.
What’s the difference between a group lesson and a lesson package?
Lesson packages include a lift ticket, a lesson and rental equipment. Lesson packages for children (12 years old and younger) include a helmet and lunch. We also sell group lessons which just include instruction, no lift tickets or equipment rentals.
How many students are in a group lesson?
Adult classes usually have 6-8 students.
Class size for 4-5 year olds is limited to 5.
Class size for 6-12 year olds is approximately 8 students per class.
If I have never skied or snowboarded before, which lesson should I choose?
We recommend that you sign up for the Full Day First Timer Package which includes your lesson, beginner area lift ticket and rental equipment. If you have equipment and/or a lift ticket, you can purchase just a First Timer Full Day Lesson.
Which lesson should I choose for my child if they have never skied or snowboarded before?
Children who are “First Timers” will be grouped when they meet for their lesson. Choose a Full Day Kid’s Lesson Package (which includes rental equipment and a lift ticket) or just a Full Day Group Lesson (no rental equipment or lift tickets). All kids are grouped according to their ability level.
Do I need to make reservations for group lessons?
Group lessons do not require advanced reservations except during peak holiday periods. We ask that you prepay for all advanced reservations.
Can I request an instructor for my group lesson?
We assign instructors to group lessons by ability level so the only way to request an instructor is to schedule a private lesson in advance.
What time can my child take a half day lesson?
Half day lessons for kids are available only in the afternoon. They meet at 12:45 and lessons begin at 1:00 PM.
Can I be there to watch my child’s lesson?
We don’t recommend it because we feel it may interfere with the group dynamics.
Do I need to make a reservation for a Private Lesson or a Friends & Family Private Lesson?
Yes, we require advanced reservations for private lessons to ensure that we will have an instructor available for you. Prepayment is required for private lessons. If you must cancel your reservation, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance or we are required to charge a $52 cancellation fee.
Are lift tickets and equipment included in the cost of a Private Lesson?
No, you will need to purchase lift tickets and rental equipment.
What time do lessons break for lunch?
Lessons generally break for lunch sometime between 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM. Lunch is included in kid’s full day group lessons.
Are there any minimum ages or size requirements for snowbike lessons?
Yes, a person must be at least 12 years old and 5 feet tall to use our snowbikes.
Can I keep my rental equipment for the duration of my stay?
Yes, just go to the rental shop and let them know how many days you want to use the equipment. They will take care of your payment for additional days.
